When it comes to your health, avoid risk

(NC) -- Enjoyment of a healthy life into old age is no accident. Everywhere we turn we are confronted with an endless amount of information- advertising, self-help books, articles and guided programs. Trying to find the right regimen and plan for you may be disheartening and some choices may even pose serious risk to your health. Consulting with a regulated health professional who is accountable to a regulatory college is the best way to ensure you receive advice that is not only results-oriented, but safe to follow.

The College of Kinesiologists regulates the practise of kinesiology in the province of Ontario. The College sets the standards for professional practice and establishes registration requirements for entry to the profession. This protects Ontarians' rights to competent, safe and ethical kinesiology services from qualified individuals.

Kinesiologists are regulated health professionals with the knowledge, skill and judgment of human movement and performance, and its rehabilitation and management. Registered kinesiologists assess an individual, develop a clear understanding of conditions impacting health, and prescribe exercise and other lifestyle changes to address health issues that assist you in achieving realistic goals. Whatever your needs may be in considering your health, it is important to make sure you consult a regulated health professional who is held accountable to a regulatory college for services provided. Good health is an investment. Ensuring that you receive value from your investment goes beyond following the latest fad programs, or meeting with a trainer whose qualifications do not meet standards established by the profession and who is not legally required to act in your interests.

Only members of the College may call themselves a kinesiologist. A registered kinesiologist has completed rigorous academic training and participates yearly in professional development and quality assurance to enhance their practice. Members of the public receiving services from a registered kinesiologist can be assured that the kinesiologist is competent and that the services provided are safe and ethical.

Even more importantly, registered kinesiologists are accountable to the College for the services that they provide to you. If you have concerns about the services that you receive from a registered kinesiologist, you can contact the College and they will investigate.
