Marcella Carby-Samuels: Lund University PhD Candidate Condemns Mother to Total Destruction

Top universities like Lund University in Sweden try to ensure that their PhD candidates are of good character, but one of their candidates, Canadian-born Marcella Carby-Samuels is a major player in a case of domestic abuse and neglect involving an elderly invalid who happens to be her own mother.

Mom gets better – daughter furious

The family dispute which came to a head in June 2015 coincided with a marked improvement in Mrs Carby-Samuels’ physical condition. This had been achieved through the dedicated care of Marcella Carby-Samuels’ brother, Raymond Carby-Samuels. As a result of improvements in her health brought about by good medical care and a healthy diet, Marcella Carby-Samuels’ mother had improved mobility and was even able to perform some basic household tasks that she had not been able to perform before.

But instead of being thankful for the obvious improvements in her mother’s health, Marcella Carby-Samuels became ‘enraged’. Despite evidence of abuse and neglect of her mother on the part of her father, Marcella Carby-Samuels conspired with him to have her brother excluded from access to his mother.

Since the elderly Mrs. Carby-Samuels has low mobility, this was achieved through excluding him from the family home. At all times, Mrs. Carby-Samuels has expressed the desire to have access to her son, but both her daughter and her husband continue to prevent the two from meeting.

Rapid deterioration without proper care

Deprived of her caregiver, the invalid’s condition deteriorated from June 2015 onwards, and in a very short time, she was no longer able to walk at all and became unable to speak. Alarmed by the evidence of his mother’s deterioration in health and physical appearance, Raymond Carby-Samuels called upon social services to intervene, but after a few visits, social workers were also denied access to Mrs. Carby-Samuels.

Although aware of the ongoing decline in her mother’s health, Marcella Carby-Samuels continued to turn a blind eye to the evidence of neglect and abuse observed by her brother, continuing to side with her father – a man who was known to be neglectful of his wife’s physical needs. When Raymond Carby-Samuels still had access to his mother, he would often return from work to find that she had not even been provided with food and water during the day.

There are even indications of physical abuse. During the dispute leading up to Raymond Carby-Samuels banning from the family home, Mr. Carby-Samuels Snr struck his wife, and a desperate, written attempt on the part of the invalid to report ongoing abuse was grossly mishandled by Ottawa police.

Who is the real victim?

As a result of the actions taken by Marcella Carby-Samuels, her own mother has been denied access to her son, has ceased to receive proper care, is neglected, and is possibly even abused at a time of life when every Canadian citizen should be assured of the best care possible. Ironically, Marcella Carby-Samuels, who has left her mother in a situation which is clearly unstainable, will be completing her PhD in Sustainable Development at Lund University.
