Weight loss linked to Vitamin D

A study published in the International Journal of Obesity points at a relationship between weight loss and Vitamin D. The study indicates that a few extra pounds can also impair the body’s ability to use vitamin D.  The study was been conducted by Louise Wamberg, M.D., Ph.D.

According to an article published in Prevention.com, Dr. Wamberg and her co-authors analyzed body fat obtained from fat as well as lean women and found that obese women lacked in enzymes which are needed to secrete Vitamin D. Dr. Wamberg explained her findings as follows:

“We suggest that fat tissue is not only a passive storage site for vitamin D, but may actively and dynamically metabolize vitamin D. These processes may be compromised in obesity.”

The study also found that the percentage of Vitamin D increased in those women who had lost a lot of weight. According to the experts, obese people need to take Vitamin D supplement to assist them in weight loss.
