Press releases can help your business in gaining a lot of exposure and publicity. It is very important to make the press releases convincing, if you want them to be helpful.  While writing the news releases, keep in mind that they can only provide your business with the required exposure, when they are read by the people. Here are 10 tips that will help you in writing press releases:

1) Know who you are writing for - the press releases are not written for the customers, or for the general public. They are written for the journalists or editors who will publish them in their respective newspapers and magazines. They will treat the press release as an introduction to a larger feature or a story. Hence, it is important that you present your story with all the required details.

2) Do not advertise - if you include any marketing hype, or treat your news releases as sales letters, they will be immediately ignored by the publishers. Such news releases, which are full of marketing hype, are not published by press release distribution network.

3) Provide a strong introduction - the first paragraph of the news release, i.e. the introductory part, should be able to create an impact on the readers. The 1st paragraph is also known as the ‘lead’ and the lead should b concise, convincing and powerful.

4) Give them a reason to publish it - if the press release only contains plan facts, it will not be worth the while for the publishers. You have to get in their shoes, and write it in such a manner that they will find it worth publishing.

5) Answer all the questions - a well written press release should include answers to the commonly asked questions (Why, Who, What, Where and When). The answers to this question will provide the publishers with the required information about your business.

6) Make it interesting - press releases are published by hundreds of organizations on a regular basis. The publishers and the readers will not bother to read your press releases, if they are not interesting.  Write it in a manner that it should grab the attention of the readers.

7) Don’t try to impress - when writing the news releases don’t try to impress the readers by using jargons or big words. Keep them simple so that that the readers can understand what you are talking about. They should be able to identify with your business.

8) Add a human touch - use actual experiences and describe how your organization adds value to the lives of your customer. You should talk about how your business deals with problems, and provides solutions for them.

9) Do not make it too long - if the press release is too long, the publishers may not publish it. Also, the readers may not even bother to read it. It is advisable to the keep the press release short, to the point and precise.

10) Keep it simple - while writing the press release, use words which are commonly used by the people. Make it very easy to comprehend so that they readers can understand your message.
